One piece closer

Only 78 pieces left.  Once these pieces are sold this will purchase one plane ticket.  Currently, this is our only concern, who to get to country. Please share to help us reach this small goal.

Fall is here

Fall is here and filled with festivals.
Stay warm if the temperature is cold and have fun.

Almost there..

Just wanted to give a little up date on where we are on our fundraising.

We have been told we are with in 8 weeks of travel.  Ya, this is crazy...that is two months away.  We still need to raise $14,500.  We are that close.  We have known all along God provides when we need the money not when we want it.  We will need the money to purchase plane tickets which will include a return ticket for our daughter.

A current fundraiser we are doing is our puzzle fundrasier.  We have 83 more pieces remaining. Thank you to those who have donated to this point and who continuously share our blog and facebook page.  Thank you to those who will help us reach our goal.

being human

So apparently in the last few weeks, I have shared a great deal of information on things that have happened in our adoption. In this time of chaos, I also neglected do to things because of being consumed by this stage. Did not respond to email or messages, missed a few things, and yes, put off laundry. I have a bad habit of checking email on my phone, but only responding to them on my computer (easier to type out). The same goes with facebook messages.  Unless it needs an immediate response, which 99% dont, I save it for later. Sadly, my later got more chaotic and a few things fell through the cracks.  I am the kind of person, if I have something to say, I will say it.  If I do, I am genuine and a very much no fluff kind of person. I dont candy coat most things and since I go by "if you cant say anything nice, dont say it at all" I will just not say anything because saying it candy coated is fake to me.

If I have hurt feelings for other because I neglected to respond to something or said a thank you, it does not mean I am ungrateful, it means that I have a great deal of stuff on my plate and I dont always remember.  It does not mean I am not thankful for all that other have done, especially during this adoption.  I am beyond humbled and forever grateful for everything that has been done, especially by people who have never met me.  I am still in awe of the gratitude of others.

We have had a VERY long adoption process, not the norm with special needs adoption, and I am thankful for those who have prayed for us and our daughters.  I am thankful for those who have not only financial helped us, but those who have just shared our story. I am thankful for other mamas who have gone to the same area to pick up their child and taken the time out of their process to meet our little girl just so we could have pictures.  I am thankful for all the crazy that has happened because I know that it all has a purpose in the big picture.

Lets take a moment

To step away from adoption related stuff and talk about baseball.

I am always giddy happy to watch my Red Sox.  They dont aways play the games here on television because it is all about the local C team. Win or loose, I will stick by my guys.  I have been a fan longer then those who became their fan when they broke the curse.  My husband has to deal with my Wally products around the house, but I had most of it before we got married.  I remember jumping on my bed in 04 because I was going that crazy, and yet he still married me.  The only time I watch games are when they play.

Ok...now back to reality...but it is nice to step away and enjoy a good game.

One step

We are yet one step closer to bring out little girl home. After 20 months of snail speed (that is what it has felt like), we are moving fast now.  We just received word that our I800 is in preliminary approval and is being signed onto the next step today. By next week we will be on to the next step.  It is becoming a very real possibility that we will travel in December.  The only thing that would stop us, is if our agency wants to drag things on and not allow us to travel until January, which we hope does not happen.  We truly want this part of the process over because we want our daughter home and also have as little as possible to do with our agency.

We are still in need of $14,500 to travel, most of which will be due to purchase air tickets, and the rest wired to country before we leave.  There are still three grants that we have not had a response.  Which means we still may or may not get them.  If we do get all three, this will cover half the the fees we still need.  We have fundraisers currently going in hopes to raise the final amount.  Click here to see the most updated list of fundraiser.

I hope to have great news in the coming days.

A piece

Our LOA has arrived at USCIS and it should be approximately 9 weeks before we travel.  Yes, you read that correctly, 9 weeks.  This means there is a good possibility that we could travel before the end of the year. It would be wonderful to be able to do this.  We so very much want this part of the process to be done so we can return to a new normal.

Because we will be traveling soon we have all our travel fees to cover.  We only need $15,000 and we are ready to go.  We will be doing some things to help get us closer to this goal.  Our final auction will occur in a few weeks and we currently have a puzzle fundraiser going on.

loss

The loss of a child during adoption.  How does one really deal with this?  It is hard to explain.  When we do things we do them to the fullest.  We grow attached to a child.  Some say, the child is not yours, so how can you "love" that child? How can you say they are yours?  In adoption, when you see a picture you just know, that child is yours.  You are willing to go do anything, extra hours of adoption education, signing extra forms, and even taking that extra step to make sure you are prepared to bring that child into your home.  When we committed to bringing Mika home, we did extensive research into FAS (Fetal Alcohol Syndrome). We did exactly what any parent would do if they had a child with a special need (adoption or biological). We found support groups and got involved in what we could to make sure we were prepared to bring her home. The goal, to make sure that she would thrive in our home. When Russia closed, we did feel a great deal of pain.  We lost our daughter. Even though we changed countries, we will always remember our daughter who is left behind.

Once we changed, we were blessed to find beautiful little girl.  We did not know much about dwarfism when we first committed but we learned fast.  As before, we involved ourselves in the LP community and we did our homework. We know we can be an advocate for her, that is one of those qualities that makes a good parent. Since March we worked on locating a second little girl that we could bring home.  We had approval for two little girls under the age of seven years old.  We had looked at many files but nothing really felt right.  All along, there was one little girl that kept coming up.  She was close in age to Johanna which is why I hesitated.  She was on hold briefly with us, but we were not 100% sure so we passed because if a family did come forward, she could be adopted. Finally after many month, she still waited, so I finally felt at peace that this was our daughter and that we could make it work.  This little girl is deaf, which for me was not that big of a deal since I know Sign Language.  We said something in front of our oldest once and she took it upon herself to start learning Sign Language, why? So she could talk to her sister.  It was amazing.  She is working so hard to learn Chinese so she can speak to Johanna, and she was learning Sign Language so she could teach her younger sister.  I was impressed with her motivation.  While she has her moments of 7 year old (almost 8) she has a good heart and she wants to be a good big sister.  It is in these moments I am proud of her.

But here we are again, loss.  We had so hoped to bring home this little girl.  We did extra paperwork, and added on 9.5 hours of adoption education (on top of the 80 we already had because that was the requirement of Russia).  We were willing to jump through whatever hoop our agency tossed at us.  We even contacted local resources, and I even contacted professors at Gallaudet and Liberty University (were I learned Sign Language). In the past, going in 110% meant my heart was in it.  When asked to jump...it was not why but how high.  As of this morning, our agency changed their minds.  They had approved us for two, we did what we had to for two, we did all the extra for two.  After all those hoops, we are no longer 'qualified' to bring home a second child.  When we did all the paperwork, we made it very clear we wanted to bring home two little girls and never once was it an issue. But our agency in the last two weeks changed their policy and we are the guinea pigs in this new process.  Even though we where approved for two long before this new process, they are now changing their minds. The only reason given to us, Johanna is 6...yes, that is it.

So, we have now lost two little girls, one by a country and one by an agency.  I am really tired of feeling this lose.  Adoption is not easy.  It is filled with pain and sorrow.  Yes, there will be those joyous moment, right now is not one of those times. I am sure there is a "plan" in all this.

I would like to thank those who prayed and supported us on the adoption of two little girls.  Thank you for the encouraging words, they are more then just words during moments like this.

One piece at a time

As reality slowly sinks in from all the activities that occurred this week, I realized we will be traveling in 3 months.  It is crazy to hear, final update.  We have not heard final..ever in this adoption process. I am still in amazement that was are this close.

We have a puzzle we are hoping to put together in the next few weeks. This puzzle is more then just paper to us.  While we have only seen one piece at a time in this process, there is a big picture. While we may not know what it looks like, God does.

A day of service

As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace
1 Peter 4:10

We started the day off early with Chinese school but spent the second have of they day serving the community with our Sunday school class.  This was the first time we had an opportunity to do this in the 2 years we had been with this church. It was a blessing to hang our with our Sunday school class but it was even more amazing to have our kids just be kids and have fun with those who came.  We all found our role and we worked it well.  I can see this will be a regular thing for us.

Send some prayers

Our LOA arrived in the mail last night from our agency. We signed, dated, and checked the right box.

At the bottom of the airbill it asks how many packages and the total declared value.....

...is priceless a value?

They are now on there way to the agency.  They will get them Monday morning and they will send them off Monday afternoon to immigrations. We are one step closer to getting our girl.

Bringing Johanna home

We have come along way through this entire adoption process.  There have been ups and many downs. We have had to rely on God and trust that His plan will work out even when we dont see the entire picture.  This past week, we took some pictures.  I was very hesitant to take because I did not want the girls to grow attached to this little girl with fear it would turn out as it did for Mika.  I took a big leap of faith and took a few pictures, here is one.

What this means, while we only see one piece in the puzzle of this adoption, God knows what the picture looks like.  As each piece is revealed we know that only God could have put them together.

With everything that has occurred our total adoption cost is going to be $45,000 but we have raised $20,000 already through personal funds, matching grants, and auctions but there is still some to go. We only need $20,000 more in funds. We know that we have been obedient to God's will and He will provide.
